What is sub-surface
or second surface printing?
Sub-surface printing is a technique used for items such as dashboard parts, control panels and other nameplates that require the ultimate in durability. The printing is applied to the undersurface of a clear or translucent plastic (usually polycarbonate) so that the top surface of the decal has no ink exposed. The thickness of the plastic protects the graphics from scratching, chemicals etc. The adhesive is applied using a transfer tape after the printing is complete.
